Why your cold calling is failing you

Why your cold calling is failing you – and how applying these five special tips can change everything

It is well known that Cold Calling and Telemarketing are not as easy as they look. Telemarketing involves talking on the phone to a particular person you don’t know and looking to convince them to buy a product, start using a service, or register for a special offer. Frequently, telemarketers fail because they are not performing the role properly.

Communicating is a skill, where there are approaches that can be applied to conversing that will help anyone become a highly effective cold caller. Here are five ways to productive telemarketing, and in return – cold calling.

Tip #1: Motivation. One of the most significant things in telemarketing is motivation. Someone has to want to do the task. The overall willingness will determine how they communicate with people. So, profitable telemarketers are incredibly motivated to do the job.

Tip #2: Learn the call structure. The telemarketer needs to have a call structure or a call plan. They have to fully understand the order of the call: the intro, the description of the product or service, the price tag, the value of the product or service, how to order, and also closing. Lots of organizations will have a script to follow. A successful telemarketer will know the script and use it to their advantage.

Tip #3: Product knowledge. In an effort to successfully speak about a product, the telemarketer really should know about the product. Individuals may ask questions before they buy or join for something, and so the telemarketer will ideally be able to answer the questions. Being familiar with the product or service will help the telemarketer complete a effective deal.

Tip #4: Mental attitude. Attitude is evident over the telephone. When somebody is cheerful and excited, those emotions will come across, even over the phone. Angry, irritated, or frustrated telemarketers are usually not successful. So, the effective cold calling telemarketer should have a pleasant attitude while doing their job.

Tip #5: Understand the buyer. A good telemarketer will know the client. Know if it is a decent time to call. Calling during dinner, early in the morning, or late in the evening is not going to be successful. If you call at a bad time, ask the client when a more desirable time to call would be. Recognize what they’re looking for. You should never try to sell them something they are not interested in. This will create antagonism. Listen to everything that the prospect has to say. Their comments and suggestions could help you guide the course of your call.

How To Overcome The Fear Of Cold Calling

In this article today I would like to discuss several tips, tricks, and techniques that just about anybody can use to overcome the fear of cold calling.

Nobody likes cold calling right away. In fact most people absolutely hate it, I mean loathe it with every ounce of their being. You’re basically calling up strangers and trying to convince them to buy something from you when you know, you know they don’t want anything to do with you and consider you to be a rude and obnoxious waste of their time.

I’m not going to sugarcoat it, it’s no fun! But the fact of the matter remains that cold calling is a legitimate, and established, and profitable form of marketing that most major companies use extensively and so it will never truly go away.

If you have the misfortune of being hired to do cold calling you may be scared to death to do it, but luckily there are several things you can do to help lower your anxiety, overcome your fear, and ultimately grow to enjoy cold calling… as hard as that may seem, and that’s what I’d like to discuss in this article today.

The first thing to realize is that this is just a problem in your head. It’s a complete mental problem. There’s nothing physical about this. You can’t see the people, and they can’t punch you in the nose, so any problem you have is in your mind and therefore as soon as you get your head screwed on straight your fear will disappear.

So tell yourself that rejection hurts only for a second or two. Besides, you’re never going to see these people, and you’re never going to have to talk to them again… so what do you care?

One way to overcome your fear is to simply set goals for the number of calls you want to make each hour. It’s also a good idea to set goals on how many calls you’d like to make in a day. When you do this, it becomes a game and you stop thinking about the other people on the other end of the line and start thinking only about meeting your goals and beating your own expectations.

Give yourself a little treat whenever you meet your goals. It doesn’t have to be anything big, maybe take a coffee break or a quick walk around the office to stretch.

Another tip is to trick yourself into being happy with little things. Tell yourself that you’ll be happy just to introduce yourself to the caller. Tell yourself that as long as you can do that everything is okay.

Then once you get comfortable introducing yourself set the bar a little higher. Tell yourself “all I have to do is introduce myself and mention the name of the product I’m selling and everything will be okay”. Gradually increase this until you’ve become comfortable giving out your entire pitch.

So there you have several very easy tips that anybody can use to help overcome their fear of cold calling. No matter how you do it I promise you this; as long as you stick to it eventually that fear will go away and it will become just another job like any other.

Jump Start Your Marketing Campaign with a Telemarketing List

Get a good list!If you want to jump start a marketing campaign then you should explore what telemarketing lists have to offer. A telemarketing list is a list of the names and phone numbers of consumers or businesses in your target market. This list can serve as your initial database.

Next, you should consider hiring an outside telemarketing services firm to contact your list.

Why Should You Hire an Outside Telemarketing Services Firm?

Unless your company has an in house telemarketing division you may also want to hire a telemarketing services company to make outbound and/or take inbound telephone calls. An effective telemarketing services company can add significant profits to your company’s bottom line because telemarketing itself is a very cost effective marketing strategy.

And because telemarketing services companies already have large scale call centers set up you will be able to capitalize on their economy of operations. Your company won’t have to invest in additional office space, phone lines, furniture, sophisticated information and telecommunications systems, computers, and telemarketing software. And it won’t be necessary to train a telemarketing staff.

What Are the Advantages of Telemarketing?

One of the advantages of telemarketing is that you can adjust your strategy as you analyze the telemarketing services firms’ results. Since telemarketers get immediate responses from a captive audience, you can have the telemarketers conduct surveys to find out what your prospects want, generate leads, have the people they speak with register for seminars, and more.

What is a Telemarketing List?

A telemarketing list is usually grouped according to the geographical location within which your prospect resides. This naturally makes it easier for you to target a specific area where your service or product is most likely to be popular. You can also rent telemarketing lists that target potential non-commercial clients by their age, occupation, in addition to their annual income.

What Is the Best Source for Telemarketing Lists?

List brokers are your best source for your telemarketing lists because they have the most up to date information. They can also help you focus on the geographic area you want to market to. Telemarketing list compilation has become a highly specialized field so it is not something you should attempt yourself if you want to get the best results.

How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Telemarketing List?

List brokers compile and rent their lists to telemarketing companies. Although prices vary, you can anticipate that the “average” telemarketing list will cost between thirty five and forty five dollars per thousand names.

The more focused your list is the more it will cost. For example, if, in addition to age, occupation, and income parameters, you would like to have your list include car owners, or people with poor credit, or homes where there are school aged children, the list will cost more to rent. But it will also be worth considerably more as far as your profits are concerned.

Cold Calling Tips from the Movies

I like this film but this clip I really love. It embodies the passion of cold calling in the eighties when things were more pushy. Things haven’t changed that much since then – and you could never get away with this these days.

But the passion I love!!
